this is so helpful - I’ ve recently set up my newsletter but struggle to know how much to intimate to subscribers - letting them in on the real life behind the product..
Another great post, Chris!! I couldn’t agree more. For me the struggle is in getting people to sign up. At the moment I don’t have a lead magnet and convincing people that it will be worth their time is difficult. Also I guess I don’t promote the sign ups often enough. Any ideas on the topic of sign up incentives would be appreciated!
I completely understand the challenges you're facing in getting people to sign up. If it makes you feel better, you're not alone. Artists, creators, and businesses of all sizes have the same issue. Having a compelling lead magnet can make a significant difference in attracting subscribers, and I realize it could be a bit of work up front.
I understand that the idea of convincing people might feel overwhelming. However, instead of focusing on convincing others, consider taking action and implementing something like a lead magnet. Sometimes, the best way to find out if something works is to give it a try and see how it goes. Taking proactive steps is a better solution than not doing anything at all. Remember, every effort you put into building your mailing list can lead to valuable connections and opportunities in the long run.
Here are some suggestions to get you going:
Consider offering something valuable and exclusive to your audience, such as a quick video art tutorial that you can easily create using your smartphone, some behind-the-scenes content also captured with your smartphone, or even a limited edition artwork in digital form—which might be the quickest option here.
Make sure to promote the lead magnet as a post regularly across your social media and website to increase visibility. You can utilize a popup on your website to capture those who want to subscribe. Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and other such platforms offer a way to do this.
Building that initial trust can be challenging, but once you provide real value through your lead magnet, more people will see the benefit of joining your mailing list. Trust me, it works. Keep experimenting and changing things up, and you'll see the results you're looking for! It may take a few iterations to get there.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. 😊
Thanks! This is very helpful. A digital image might be the best option for me (I’m a photographer) and I could switch it up and see what image people respond better to...

Just include whatever feels natural to you. Don’t over think it. Hopefully the example prompts I’ve provided can give you some inspiration.
